Trimethoprim-Sulphamethoxazole ODoxycycline Outcomesfor Skin Infections

What is the purpose of the study?

The purpose of this study is to compare how well two different antibiotics work at curing skin infections. The antibiotics used in this study have been commonly used by doctors to treat certain types of infections for many years. However, even though these antibiotics are used often, it is not known if one of the drugs is better than the

other at treating skin infections. The study will also see if one of the antibiotics is safer than the other.

The antibiotics that will be used in this study are doxycycline (DOXY) and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (TMP/SMX). Both antibiotics are approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat different types of infections. The FDA has not approved these two antibiotics for the treatment of skin infections.

However, both antibiotics are commonly recommended (and used off label which is allowed by the FDA) by experts to treat skin infections.
